Malcom Arnold – Peterloo Overture, Op. 97
Ovidiu Marinescu – Concerto for Two Cellos, Strings, and Percussion
Reinhold Glière – The Red Poppy Suite, Op. 70

The Immaculata Symphony presents a Fall Concert of stunning music. Reinhold Glière, born in the city of Kiev (now Kyiv, Ukraine), composed music for the ballet The Red Poppy in 1927 and its famous “Russian Sailor’s Dance” remains a popular encore for orchestras today. The work’s lyrical fourth movement features ImS Concertmaster Jacqueline Vilbert. We then welcome back to the stage Ovidiu Marinecu performing with ImS principal cellist Amy Flynn in his new Concerto for Two Cellos, inspired by Romanian, Bulgarian, Scandinavian, and Irish folk music and dance tunes. The concert opens with Malcom Arnold’s Peterloo Overture, which depicts the Peterloo Massacre of 1819. This powerful work ends in triumph, “in the firm belief that all those who have suffered and died in the cause of unity amongst mankind, will not have died so in vain.”

Tickets are available at the door and online at Eventbrite.
